Role of the ski patrol
The 56 ski patrollers in Tignes enable you to have fun on the slopes in the safest possible conditions. All are certified and hold a Emergency first aid diploma. At all times, they are equipped with the following:
- First aid kit
- Essential items for locating avalanche victims: avalanche transceiver, snow shovel and probe
The ski patrol service can also inform or advise you. Don’t hesitate to go see them at ski patrol stations located at the top of each sector.
> Powderman: trained in the intentional triggering of avalanches using explosives
> Weather observer: responsible for reporting precipitation, snowfall, snow depth and significant weather indicators
> Canine avalanche responder: works with a trained dog and trains regularly in the rescue of avalanche victims
Ski patrol coordination
Based at ski patrol headquarters, they gather information enabling ski patrol dispatch. Fluent in several languages, they receive guests to process payment for first aid
In the instance of an accident
If you witness an accident, notify the rescue service and provide as many details as possible:
> Location of the accident
o Name of the run
o Nearest marker number
o Side of the run (to the left or right, sloping upward or downward)
> Type of injury
With your help, they can be dispatched to the site as quickly as possible, with the appropriate equipment.
