Ski lift news

Faster, bigger, more eco-friendly! The new gondola linking Tignes Les Boisses to Tignes Le Lac has just replaced the 2-man chairlift which was built in 1976: with a passenger flow of 3000 skiers per hour as opposed to 900, less than 4 minutes to the top instead of 9 minutes and more comfort with 8 seats and room for 10 people standing, this is the greatest leap forward in the history of the Tignes ski lift system!
Let’s not forget the environmental considerations: 6 fewer pylons, less noise with a motor located outside the village and no more concrete pillars.
Departure: Tignes Les Boisses at 1770 metres.
Arrival: Tignes Le Lac Marais plateau at 2180 metres.
Opening: When the Tignes Val d’Isère Espace Killy ski area opens.

Spotlight on the certification of the ski lifts

The STGM (Tignes Ski Lift Company) has been ISO 14001 certified since 2008; this is due to the action plans and internal audits necessary to ensure continual environmental improvements. Every year, the indicators (quality of recycling, efforts concerning recycling, pollution rating etc.) are improving. Over the past 10 years, approximately 120 pylons have been removed from the mountains.

One resort, 27 times more canons

This winter, the Tignes ski area boasts an extra 27 snow canons: on the Grattalu piste so that the Palet zone can be opened this Autumn and on the Bollin piste to double the amount of existing equipment. In other words, there are now 848 canons on the Espace Killy Tignes Val d’Isère ski area.

Organic artificial snow!
No chemicals are used to make snow. Only water and air make up the snow from the canons. There is no dedicated reservoir in Tignes, since the 286 snow canons positioned on the pistes draw the water they need from the natural lake in the resort.
