with the survival trilogy: Transceiver, shovel and probe ... and adequate clothing
Rule No. 2 test yourself:
in the training area in the heart of the resort, 8 beacons are permanently buried. Your goal? To find them with your transceiver on your own. Free access
Rule No. 3 practice:
Black slopes are marked and secured but not groomed, the 6 “Naturides” reproduce natural freeriding conditions and safely allow you to acclimatize to the off-track environment. Thrill guaranteed!
Rule No. 4 inform yourself:
before you leave, reading avalanche and snow forecasts is a must! The chairlift ride also gives you an opportunity to observe the terrain’s condition and locate your line.
And on the slopes, keep your ears open ... In Tignes, ski patrollers offer advice on the day’s weather conditions.
6 totems scattered throughout the ski resort display the weather forecast for the day. They are made to increase skiers’ and freeriders’ awareness of the mountain, its dangers, and changes in the snowpack and avalanche risks.
Rule No. 5 prepare yourself:
The good quality of a good freeride skiing session depends on the snow conditions and weather factors but also on your physical fitness. Being a freerider at heart is also knowing how to give up.
Rule No. 6 share:
“There’s no such thing as solitary pleasure!” A tip given by Guerlain Chicherit, the local champion, 4 times freeride champion of the world:
« Before going off-track 1 / check the avalanche risks, 2 / ask the trackers about the cohesion of the snowpack, 3 / never leave alone and 4 / don’t forget the vital trio: transceiver-shovel-probe, a freerider’s best friends.”
