The birth of a winter sports resort

Already in 1936, Tignes was a pioneer as far as winter sports was concerned and welcomed tourists kitted out with skis on the village’s one and only ski-lift.
After the barrage was constructed in 1952 and the Tignes’ ancient village was engulfed by water, Tignes managed to bounce back and finally settled at 2100 m altitude in the heart of a unique natural 360° arena.
In the 1970’s, the face of Tignes changed once again and in so doing, quickly became the international and mythical resort that it is today.

Did you know? Tignes was elected "the Sportiest city" in 2008 by the Edaily sports paper "L'Equipe".
 

Val Claret: for the party animals

You are the party animal type? Discover Tignes by night in Tignes Val Claret! After a whole day on the slopes, and till dawn, try a typical or unusual restaurant and then move your body on the dancefloor. Expect some crazy and cosmopolitan parties!

Lac: the heart of the resort

If your favorite holidays feature skiing, getting a nice suntan on a terrace, shopping and relaxing, head to Tignes le Lac. There is always something to do in the resort centre! Skiing during the day, checking your e-mails at the Multimedia Centre in the Maison de Tignes le Lac, shopping for some souvenirs, and a moment just for you at the wellness area of the Lagon...

Want to enjoy skiing AND a quiet stay? You will like Tignes le Lavachet! Nearby the lifts, a few minutes away from Tignes le Lac and Tignes le Lavachet by the free bus shuttle: you can enjoy all the advantages of the resort and the tranquility of the area...

Tignes 1800:
a rebirth for the old village

If you are used to just pass by Tignes 1 800, it is going to change soon!
In November 2010, the new Boisses gondola was open for the very first time: bigger and faster than the chair lift that was there before, it will take you to the Marais (2 180m high) within only 4 minutes! It is one of the first steps towards a whole redevelopment of the village that will appeal to you if you like to go on holidays with your family.  A modern architecture with a village spirit, a hotel***, holiday residences****, a holiday village and a brand new 2 000m² city plan (shopw, bars, restaurants, information desk, services etc.): a promising project!

A little culture: Tignes les Boisses Church:
The parish Church of Saint Jacques de Tignes, built in the 50s, is a replica of the one that was destroyed when the dam was open. It show fine furnishing and baroque-style paintings.

Brevieres: back to authenticity

At the bottom of the dam, at an altitude of 1 550 m, come and discover Tignes les Brevieres.
In winter, use the two lifts (Brévières and Sache) and ride down to the resort centre between the trees. Beginners can also enjoy two free lifts (Pitots and Fil Neige) to start easily on the green slopes.
In summer, go for a walk along the river and enjoy hiking around the village.

The traditional villages

Those four traditional villages will appeal to those who like old stones with a History and a soul. Go and discover them, and admire the surroundings and especially the Chevril lake!
