WHAT IS THE LINK BETWEEN BEIJING AND TIGNES? SPORT IN EVERY SHAPE AND FORM!
In August, whilst the top-level sportsmen and women will be taking in as much oxygen as possible during their altitude training, the Freeride Mountain Bike Tour will be coming to the Tignes Bike Park… So if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for you: come to the Grande Motte glacier for some summer skiing. Don’t hold back – you can get stuck in until 31 August!
23 & 24 AUGUST: THE SPOTLIGHT IS ON MOUNTAIN BIKING
3rd stage of the 2008 Freeride Mountain Bike Tour
On 23 August, whilst the mountain bikers battle it out on the Olympic cross-country course in Beijing, in the Tignes Bike Park we will be hot on their heels with the 3rd Freeride Mountain Bike Tour! This is the perfect opportunity to marvel at the impressive riding skills of the best pro and amateur riders of the biking world and to learn a bit more about the freeride version of mountain biking. The riders will be waiting at the main square in Tignes Le Lac.

Tignes – the official venue for top-level sportsmen and women
Following visits from the French Football team last May, the Olympic Lyonnais and Entente Sétifienne teams in July, the Montpellier Hérault Rugby Club and the Stade Français rugby team in August and the budding footballers of the famous Bosquier camps training throughout the summer, more and more top-level sportsmen are coming to train at 2,100m altitude. Here are the dates:
- Up to 22 August: Orange Volley Ball Team.
- From 29 to 31 August: Annecy Rugby Club.
- From 1st to 21 September: 2007 WBA Champion (light flyweight category) Brahim Asloum, just back from Beijing.
- From 29 September to 3 October: French Rugby League team.
Once again it’s time to take advantage of the skiing on the Grande Motte glacier at an altitude of 3,000 up to 3,456 metres, for a real breath of fresh air during your holidays! The summer ski area is open every day from 7.15 a.m. to 1 p.m. until 31 August.
But ski and snowboard fans need not panic and pack away their kit just yet! From 27 September, the Tignes ski area will open once again, starting with the slopes of the glacier. Winter is coming…
And the pro skiers are in the starting blocks!
They haven’t got a medal just yet but they are preparing for one! The national ski teams will be setting up camp on the Grande Motte glacier for the whole of the autumn. It is the ideal playground to prepare for the World Alpine Ski Championships which will take place in February 2009 in the espace killy ski area in Val d’Isère.
