On May 8th , Tignes was one of the last resorts to close his ski area, today all teams are already in the starting blocks and get ready for busy summer 2007!
Awaiting for the reopening of the glacier on June 23rd, let's go back to the big hits of winter 2007 and let's have a pick on the not-to-be-missed events of summer 2007!
The big hits of winter 2007 ...
At an altitude of more than 2000 metres, Tignes never lacks of snow! Therefore it's obvious we've just had a really good winter season : the resort had an increase of +2,9% of skiers on the ski area comparative to 2006, with more than 1 400 000 skiers! These good numbers are of course due to the on-and-on events that punctuated the life of the resort during this winter season 2006 - 2007.

New year 2007
On December 31st 2007, for fun and party the meeting point was right in front of the lake. A great night with torchlight descent, hot wine and chocolate, and an awesome party hosted by famous DJ Tom Snare. In total, more than 7000 people were there to dance until the end of the night. The New Year' Eve party in Tignes keeps fascinating and attracting people! This year, the attendance increased by 70% compared to the two previous years. As we are preparing the edition of 2008, all we can say is that some very famous DJs are about to light Tignes on fire...
From January 8th to 12th 2007, Tignes organised, for the third consecutive time, the Tignes Airwaves. This not-to-be-missed event, alsa called the "european X-Games", enables a lot of extreme sports to show off and impress a lot of "thrill aficionados". This year, the general lack of snow, which was well managed by the technical staff, didn't disturb the event. Approximately 5000 to 7000 people joined us every night. Lars Lewen won the skiercross session - recently appointed Olympic sport - closely followed by the french Enak Gavaggio. The freeride show revealed how difficult that sport is and how huge the capacities of this new playground were for the final of the Freeride World Cup in April. The TV viewers of "Sport +" (French Channel) saw live the victory of Tanner Rainville followed by the french Loïc Collomb-Patton during the final of the big air to wall. The noisiest exhibition was kept for the end of the week ! The last evening, the FMX riders gave us a great show and crowned the Spanish Danny Torres. All together, the event had a great media cover, as it was broadcasted during 26 hours on TV channels, like TF1, France Télévision, M6 (for French Channels) or Extreme Sports Channel, and during 36 hours on radio channels, live most part of the time.

On February 19th 2007, one session of the Oxbow Kid's Week took place in Tignes. This european tour of the ski resorts, initiated in Tignes in 2001, is organized each year for children under 16 years old in order to discover new freestylers. 28 young talents of glide confronted each other on a slope-style in Tignes. In the end, it's Julien Lange, originating from Tignes, who won the competition.
On March 20th and 21st 2007 took place the third edition of the Protest Jib-Vid. This year, the level was insane. Best music acts, great ambiance and some fresh powder to top it off. Created by seasonal workers from Tignes 2 years ago, this event is today very famous, with teams coming from France, UK, Germany, Dutchland, Belgium to compete...
From April 9th to 13th 2007, the final of the Freeride World Cup was held in Tignes. The general lack of snow in all Europe made Tignes the only possible playground for a French and Euopean stage of the World Tour. Guerlain Chicherit, crowned 3 times as World Champion (in 1999, 2002 and 2006), won his 4th world title on April 12th. An amazing come back for this athelete who had left the competition for 3 years to concentrate on his Car-race career and more specifically on his Dakar Race. Guerlain is the first champion to win this title 4 times! Despite the exploit, all the resort and the participants regret the conditions in which the final ended. Eventough the security conditions and the quality of the snow were excellent, the tragic death of the young and promising Neal Valiton – a Swiss champion of only 18 years old from Verbier - has thrown a black shadow over our heads. He fell badly off a rocky cliff of La Grande Balme and got killed instantly. The resort of Tignes would like to express once again their tribute to this young and talented champion who left us too soon. His personal website has now become a tribute website for fans, friends and family.
On April 28th and 29th 2007, a rally for telemark lovers was organized for the 15th consecutive time to celebrate the end of the winter season: the famous Black Shoes, symbol of the ski of the past. At the beginning, they were just thirty. Today, the BS attracts more than 200 people coming from all over the country, from the youngest to the oldest. From June 23rd 2007, opening day of the glacier of Tignes, the resort has a rich program of activities and events (some famous around the world!). For the first time in the resort history, one stage of the Tour de France will arrive in Tignes (15th of July), followed by a day of rest. Like every year, the Euro Beach Soccer will also stop on Tignes' beach (27th - 29th of July), the highest European beach. And for all sports lovers, Tignes has selected a wide variety of summer sessions: football with B. Bosquier, swimming sessions with our specialist swimming instructors of the Lagon (aquatic centre of Tignes), or more mountain bike on the Bike Park edition 2007 with big new slopes.
